This is a repost that I did on another site, but I want to add this thought.
If the Government controlls our Food, and they control our Healtcare, and businesses, then they control our future. Our security is at risk because we get our oil from Over seas. If the San Joaquin Valley can not grow our food, then we will be at the mercy of other countries for our existance. I don’t know about you, but I worry about eating food from China, or other countries.
My thoughts On the “Valley that Hope Forgot”.
I grew up in the San Joaquin Valley of California. My Family came there in 1901 from Tennessee. We were dirt Farmers, not far from Huron and Mendota. While my family grew Cotton and Alfalfa there was still so much Pride and beauty in the surrounding farms that grew the food. I remember whenever we would leave the Valley for a week to Go to the coast, that the mark of being back home for me, was when We would come down off of the hills near Avenal, and see miles and miles Of rich farmland that was either green with crops or had just been plowed For the next planting. Farmland Fields are the most beautiful site to An old Farm Girl like myself. I would rather see Fertile Fields than the Ocean, Or the mountains. I am a Flat Lander and Farm girl at Heart. During this Program, I could not keep from crying as I watched, and saw The condition of the fields. As I watched the people that are without Jobs, and the thought of these people having to get food from the Government when they are used to growing not only the Food for the World, But their own food. It breaks my heart. They say that they are trying to save the Minnows, but they need to take A good look at the people, and what is happening to them. When will our Government wake up and give people more of a priority than some fish, bird, or mouse ? I for one do not want to eat food grown in China or Mexico, or India. If China sends Us toys with lead in the paint that can make children sick, or kill them, then why would we want to eat the food they grow? If this happens we will not only be at The Mercy of other Countries for Gas and Oil, we will be at the Mercy for our own food and survival. This goes directly to the of Security of Our Country!! This has been coming for a long time, and I think they are using The minnows as an excuse. There used to be so many Packing houses Up and down the valley and they have shut many of them down and ship the Food to Mexico to have it packed. This has been going on for some years. Someone needs to find out what the Governments REAL AGENDA is. There Has to be something bigger than the Minnow. I thought President Obama was for minorities, and taking care of them too. The Majority of the farm workers are Minorities that need these jobs. He is taking the food out of their mouths and their ability to take responsibility For themselves and their families. While Mrs Obama makes such a big deal of planting a garden at the white house, They are taking away the Garden of the World, as a great percentage of the Worlds food comes from California and the San Joaquin Valley. I watched with Sadness in my heart, and tears in my eyes but I want to thank Shawn Hannity for the Great Reporting on this American Tragedy.
There was a vote in the Senate to turn the water back on, and all of the Republican’s voted yes except for three, and I bet we can guess which ones those were, but the Democrats voted no, and they have more votes….
I say, Turn the Water Back ON!!
Many may not realize that Steinbeck traveled up the Central Valley camping and communing with the people whose heart, soul, and suffering he would introduce to the world in the pages of his great novel, The Grapes of Wrath.
Some have said that Steinbeck implied criticism of “Capitalism” in his story of the poor itinerate farm hands and their desperate struggle to survive subjected to the cruelty of corporate farmers and corrupt authorities, but nothing could be farther from the truth.
In the pages of The Grapes of Wrath, we see where America is headed with collectivism, with all power held by a corrupt few. The overabundance of farmhands now, are darker skinned than the Okies were, but the story is merely a repeat of days gone by.
Once you get beyond the human suffering, which is always the same, the only difference is that productivity is no longer limited by lack of developed infrastructure to deliver the water, or even the food once it is grown… Now the infrastructure exists; the dams, canals, head gates, and pumps are all in place, ready to deliver life-giving water to the nation’s food supply. The only thing lacking now, is political will to open the gates.
“The people come with nets to fish for potatoes in the river, and the guards hold them back; they come in rattling cars to get the dumped oranges, but the kerosene is sprayed. And they stand still and watch the potatoes float by, listen to the screaming pigs being killed in a ditch and covered with quicklime, watch the mountains of oranges slop down to a putrefying ooze; and in the eyes of the people there is the failure; and in the eyes of the hungry there is a growing wrath. In the souls of the people the grapes of wrath are filling and growing heavy, growing heavy for the vintage.” ~voice of narrator, The Grapes of Wrath
Thank you for posting the video, and your thoughts Marian. I agree with you completely. There is something sinister afoot… Turn the water on!!!
Neo, I have said from the beginning that Obama would have us
back to the dust bowl days of the Grapes of Wrath.
This is a sad state of affairs but not a surprise as Obama’s
cohorts vote against turning the water back on. One can not
count on the POTUS, he is a world traveler and has no time to
pay attention to the people… and what is going on in this country,
the country he is supposed to be POTUS of. Why would he be
bothered with the San Joaquin Valley when he is so concerned about
Chicago getting the Olimpics in 2016?
Thank you for reading, and thanks for the comments
What you posted here is exactly how the progressives/liberals think…or don’t. People with that mindset have NEVER made sense to me and I guess they never will. I write software for a living. I think very logically. It’s just a habit to do so. They are the MOST illogical people ever. The “if it feels good do it” crowd. They never seem to think about the fact that actions have consequences and when something bad happens to them due to their own thoughtlessness and carelessness, they just can’t figure out why it happened. Why me!!!??? waaaaa waaaaa
TR, other than the ecologists, I am wondering if there is a deeper reason than to Save the dumb Delta Smelt? I am thinking it is part of the plan to starve this country, and make them dependent on the Government, which the farm workers are now.
Thank you for reading, and for your comments.
The stupid liberals from San Francisco don’t care about a bunch of dirt farmers in the valley , they think their food comes from the gourmet food store , so the heck with the common people save the stupid fish..
josz, you are right, and just wait, they will be the first to complain when people
get sick from disease caused by the food grown in China. The toys they send us, and the sheet rock and who knows what else is tainted and can make us sick and kill. Remember the dog food?
