Medications We take

The other day before I left on my trip, I talked to my doctor about some side effects that were bothering me from the medication she had given me.

She told me something that I had never thought of and had no clue about. You know that some insurances no matter what you pay, will not okay the real medication, but just the generic medication. She said that if you take the generic meds, it does not work as well as the “real” name brand medications. Because it does not work as well, as the brand name med, you have to usually take more of it….

So.. If I have this straight in my mind, we pay for insurance coverage so if we have a problem, we can take a medication and get better. But our insurance will not pay for the one to get you better faster, it will only pay for the one that you have to take more of, and take it longer!!

I use logic in most things, and this is not logical to me…. How about any of you bloggers out there?

Hi Marion, good to see you! It’s not always age either,i’m only 56 🙁 But what suffering this country will have when they follow the failed healthcare systems of other countries. They are young and well,so this does not matter to them now,,but it will one day,,when it is too late …it will wake them up when the young voters of o,lose a close loved one to bad maintanence care.

Marion this is a sad sign of our times. I am on lots of meds that could be better, but they cost too much. The system makes no sense ,medicaide or medicare. Actually every day the days approved change. !? Neither current system of socialized medicine works well. I have actually been told that certain treatments are off limits because of my age. That is just heartbreaking to have ot live with daily. Well now you know a little about me. What a way for the government to control its popuation too. Canadians come here alot for good healthcare, they own homes in Az. too,,,they are beside themselves. I never thought that I would live under socialism, but here it is. Take care of yourself and hubby.

As long as you are not in danger of outright “croaking”, they love stringing you along, Marian. They did it to my husband with blood pressure meds. He had an allergic reaction….so instead of changing it…they tested him for allergy. (More money, right?!)

It took 6 months of itching and rash…..before they changed it.

If he had listened to me….and insisted that the doctor change it….he would have saved months of misery.
    Oh well…..

I won’t quote you but I agree with you. I think it is a topic that people should take a serious look at and if possible pay for the more expensive meds to get better fast. I also have issues with new meds popping up all the time, every med advertised, has side effects that can make you sicker than what you are taking the medication for…. I am not a fan of medications anyway, and think they prescribe far too much of it and most doctors have no clue what interactions with other meds will be. When In doubt, ask a pharmacist…..

Great topic Marian! You open Pandora’s Box though whenever you delve into the vagaries of issues at the heart of free market vs regulation. In short, the policies of insurance companies are driven purely by profit motives.

To understand what you have described, first we have to recognize that corporations are evil. I’m not talking about business mind you. Business and businesses are good, and they are the heart and soul of our capitalist society.

The problem is that the organizational structure we call “Corporations” are designed to curry favor and advantage over others by whatever means, including bribery, manipulation of politicians, and extortion… just like labor unions. Then, like unions, we grant these soulless corporations immortality. We even insure them from risk of loss or failure now because the OCS steals from the poor to coddle the rich.

The answer is not more legislation. Teddy Roosevelt warned us of the evils of corporations and enacted antitrust regulations to try to stop the abuse of behemoth corporate oligarchies and consortiums. Roosevelt was right about them being evil, but his efforts at “progressive” politics only ushered in the demise of the free market while doing nothing to stop corporate corruption.

What the answer is, is to throw off all healthcare legislation and let the free market reign. No forced insurance, and no forced health coverage anywhere. People want to be healthy, and so the market will never be jeopardized by lack of consumer interest.

Insurance companies would have to compete without their hard gained lobbied advantages, so insurance would soon be half of what it is now. People want to be healed, so they would go buy the best medicine they could afford, and drug prices would be a fraction of what they are now. This would require revamping the FDA so they stop protecting a few major drug companies, and tort reform would be needed to prevent upstarts from being sued out of existence by predator class action lawyers.

This is all out of my crusty head and only opinion, so don’t quote me on any of it… but that is what I think! LOL

    A great post Marian! Thanks
